Smoke on the Horizon
Smoke on the Horizon is a rewrite of ALC Holfelder’s original self-published trilogy Unbreakable (The Curse, The Rescue, Alabaster’s Revenge). In early 2026, ALC Holfelder decided that the main characters of the Unbreakable trilogy deserved more! They chose to pull the series from publication and are currently in the process of rewriting book 1 with SB Watson. During the rewrites, the characters have taken on new life, new purpose, and new adventures, turning SOTH into something altogether new!
Midnight, dark of the moon, Monongahela riverside
Tristan wakes knowing only his first name and that shiny daggers are usually dangerous. Given that the sorceress suddenly standing over him is clutching a shiny dagger, Tristan decides to run. He runs, sprinting away from the muddy banks of the Monongahela River until he finds himself cornered – exhausted, afraid, and confused – by a hulking werewolf.
Enter Phoenix “Nix” Morris. He’s just out for a late night wander through the streets of Hazelwood, in Pittsburgh, PA. He doesn’t expect to come across some skinny kid cowering from a werewolf. Nor does he expect any of what is to follow – least of all that said skinny kid is more Skilled in magic than anyone Nix has ever met.
Nix and Tristan, along with Nix’s aunt Shaelle, her queer platonic partner Monica, and the Sorcerer’s Guard must work together to find out not only who Tristan really is, but why the Cravia crime family wants him dead.
