Wardens of the Veil
Set partly in Pittsburgh, PA and partly in Potter County in the North Central Appalachia region in PA, Wardens follows Emmaline Byrne on a journey of self-discovery and danger as she works to save her hometown from a murderous Cannaghast.
Maybe those “bear attacks” weren’t really caused by a bear…
This WIP is the product of a RPG that both ALC Holfelder and SB Watson started playing with several other friends from undergrad. Based around a unique set of characters – a Cajun redneck “occult investigator” named Armand; the snarky duo of vampire Maury and hag Hilda; and Armand’s fiery apprentice Emmaline – the story has grown to include the genderfluid jack-of-all-trades Mya and the Ancient banshee medical examiner John Murphy.
This motely crew has a series of murders to solve. The bodies are spread across the Appalachian region, almost as if a roving serial killer is taking lives. The catch?
They are soul-dark.
John should be able to detect traces of souls where they have left the body. But these corpses have no such traces. Someone – or something – is consuming their souls.
It’s a race against time to track down this supposed Canaghast before they kill again.
